November 2006
sermon
At our weekend services on November 11th and 12th we are going to kick off a new series entitled “Who Am I?” So often we are told that God has a plan and a purpose for our life, but sometimes it’s hard to believe that God can actually use us. Join us, as we look at the life of Moses, a man who was used by God even though he didn’t think he had anything to offer.

Someone’s Watching

Proverbs 15:3 (NIV) “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.”

A little boy was always getting into trouble in his Sunday School class so in frustration, his teacher said to him, "I want you to know that God is watching you all the time. Even when I can't keep my eyes on you, God has His eyes on you. He is watching you. So you'd better straighten up."

The boy was terrified by the thought of God watching him all the time. After Sunday School, he told his parents, "The teacher said that God is watching me all the time." They could see that the thought terrified their son rather than bringing comfort to his heart. So, his parents put it into proper context for him. They said, "Yes, it's true that God is always watching you. But the reason is because He loves you so much that He can't take His eyes off you."

Many times when we think of God watching us, what comes to mind are surveillance cameras that are hidden in public places where we never tend to look. They have the ability to watch everyone. People don't even realize a camera is turning around and following them wherever they go.

When we consider the fact that God is watching us, we might think that is terrifying, but it all depends. If we are rebelling against the Lord, then the thought of it can be more than a little frightening. However, for those who are following Him, God is watching us, but it’s because He loves us so much that He can't take His eyes off us. We may lose sight of God, but He never loses sight of us.

A few months ago I was performing my sister-in-law’s wedding. As I was standing on the platform watching the wedding party come down the aisle, I caught a glimpse of Amy. She was in the wedding party. I heard laughter in the crowd, and it wasn’t until afterwards that I realized why. Many people told me my facial expression was priceless when I saw her. Amy looked beautiful! Don’t tell my sister-in-law, but Amy was the most beautiful woman in the party. Even after 4 kids, she still amazes me with how fine she is. This is the kind of look I’m talking about when our heavenly Father looks at us. God looks at us in amazement of His work. His love for us doesn’t waiver.
